In February 2026 a group of geocachers from Canberra and Sydney spent a full day adventure, undertaking a Ghost Town Tour exploring the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW. A total of 46 Geocachers took off in a convoy of twelve 4WD vehicles, with the first cache stop at Remembrance 6 Sir Charles Moses (GC8066F), where the Sydney group met up with those that had started in Canberra.

The tour covered 16 cache stops, including 3 historic cemeteries, a Babe movie (GC9P8F5) dedication cache, a Nature State Park and a National Park, a rainforest walk, a cliff top natural wishing well and a spectacular Forest Monastery (GC39XYJ), with several group photo shoots along the way.

There were 8 stunning lookouts, most with waterfalls for incredible photo shoots and drone footage. Unfortunately, by the afternoon the clouds had rolled in and some of the views were restricted, but they could still appreciate the geology and surroundings. There was a 4WD weir crossing at one stage to test out the vehicles.

By mid-morning the group had arrived at the Historic Joadja Ghost Town (GC666DG), where the “Ghost Town Tour” on people mover trolleys was led by our host Valero, who took them on an historic and spooky trail of a bygone era. This included abandoned structures, a railway incline, old school buildings and cottages. At the end of the tour there was a free distillery tour.

Back on the road after lunch, where the group visited Robertson (Babe Movie dedication aka The Big Potato), and Robertson Cemetery (GC3C7BE). Then onto Morton National Park for the Belmore Falls (GC6XG6B) Virtual. Later there were some stops at the Fitzroy Canal (GC5334E) and Richardson Lookout (GC2W8BT), where there are three lookouts within 300m of each other.

Later it was onto the Natural Wishing Well, for some group photos, then a stop at the Echo Point EarthCache (GCB73WG) and Virtual (GC9P7ZB), before the breathtaking views at Grand Canyon Lookout, and the final cemetery cache at L.K.A. Bundanoon (GC43KPP).

By now it was time for dinner and the Highland Fling (GCBF6TZ) event at the Historic Bundanoon Hotel. A raffle for all tour participants was drawn by the Hotel Manager. After they filled their bellies, it was off again for the final adventure which was a night-time rainforest walk with torches to one of the regions highlights in the Glow Worm Glen. Here they waited patiently, and in silence, as the glow worms appeared one by one.

Finally, after one last photo shot in the dark, it was time to part ways and head home. A very enjoyable experience with great organisation and company. Thanks to The Farmers 5 (Greg) for another well planned 4WD adventure. I’m sure all participants had a memorable experience.
