On Saturday 6th December, GeocachingNSW hosted our annual Christmas event (So This Is Cachemas) in beautiful Helensburgh, south of Sydney. It was an extremely hot day out there today, but a good number of teams still battled the heat and wind to make the journey to Charles Harper Park. We were lucky to get the rotunda to ourselves, and with the help from a few of the early attendees we set up in the shade.
The numbers grew as the event started and a few managed to find time to gather the WPs for the newly published multi, given they were so close to our venue. We hope you enjoyed this little insight into the history of The ‘Burgh.
It was nice to see some new faces at the event, especially those that have only recently started out in this wonderful activity. Coffee and tea, and snacks were consumed, and some teams brought extras to share which was greatly appreciated. The little ones enjoyed the craft, and after the President’s speech, a few games began.
We had a “Guess The Number Of Mint Tins In The Ammo Can” competition which was jointly won by EverestHigh and AnimalLover362x. The “Stack The Mint Tin” competition was a battle of sibling rivalry between AnimalLover362x and Sam361x, which was again shared. And during the event a 35-piece Jigidi was added as an Announcement to the event page, and the prize was also shared by The Neighbs and EverestHigh. Since events are all about sharing and community it was nice to see these things happen with these games.
Then Santa appeared out of nowhere and the youngsters were given a little present. The smiles on their faces said it all. The parents and grandparents were able to keep them busy for awhile.
All up it was a wonderful afternoon. The conversations were plenty, and the cheerful nature of all attendees was greatly appreciated by the GCNSW Committee. A recap of the year’s events reminded us of all that has happened in 2025, from the NSW’s first Block Party in January to the GIFF event recently. We had some coin and merchandise sales recently, and we may have some more next year.
On behalf of the GCNSW Committee, we would like to say thank-you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2025 by attending events, and purchasing some of our merchandise, such as geocoins and clothing, throughout the year. It is your generosity that helps to keep us running. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you at more events in 2026.
