If you are after a great escape, you can’t go past Goulburn. Goulburn is a city rich in heritage, culture, natural beauty and adventure, ready to be explored. One of the earliest inland settlements in NSW and Australia’s first inland city, Goulburn has long been the historic heart of this country region.

Goulburn is a two-hour drive from Sydney and one-hour drive from Canberra. It has a diverse range of geocaches to suit every taste.

Let geocaching be your guide to visit some of the beautiful old buildings and churches in the heart of Goulburn. The St. Peter and Paul’s Old Cathedral dates back from 1871 and is featured in the Earthcache (GC68WFK) with close to 50 favourite points.  The nearby heritage listed Goulburn Post Office from 1880 has a Virtual Cache (GC9P7FE) and has collected 19 favourite points.

The Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum dates back to 1925 and is the highest point in Goulburn and is not to be missed.  The bonus of the Adventure Lab ‘War Memorials of Goulburn’ (GC920RQ) will take you right there! Needless to say there are some great views over Goulburn from there which has been appreciated by our geocachers who awarded over 25 favourite points.

A bit out of town you will find more history.  The 2-stage multi The Great Southern Road at Towrang-2 (GC37MFR), just East of Goulburn will take you to a stretch of the original Hume highway, dating back to 1839.

For the geocachers who are interested in boosting their number of finds, the Period Table of the Elements Series takes you across Goulburn and surrounding.  It has a number of good DT caches, like  Chlorine (GCA12N2). Just don’t forget your squid pole.

Of course, no visit to Goulburn would be complete without stopping to visit Rambo, the big Merino statue.  And what better way to admire Rambo than to also tick off two themed geocaches:  The Big Merino Goulburn – Virtual Reward 3.0 Virtual Cache (GC9P580) and The Big Merino Goulburn (GC9C2TX).  While you are there, pop into the Trapper Bakery which has an excellent reputation for fresh made pies.
